Expert Witnesses at the National Inquiry into Civics Education
SAYF members had the unique opportunity to serve as expert witnesses at the National Inquiry into Civics Education in Canberra. This involvement allowed us to share our insights and perspectives on the importance of civics education for young Australians, emphasising the need for a curriculum that resonates with the experiences and realities of youth today.
Collaboration with Flinders University on Youth Loneliness Research
We are proud to collaborate with Flinders University on important research addressing youth loneliness. This partnership aims to gather data and insights to better understand the factors contributing to loneliness among young people, enabling us to develop targeted strategies and interventions to support mental health and social connection.
Representation at the United Nations Summit of the Future
In an extraordinary achievement, SAYF members received special accreditation to represent Australian youth at the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York. At this prestigious event, our members engaged in discussions surrounding the development of the International Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations. This experience allowed us to advocate for youth perspectives on a global stage, ensuring that the voices of young Australians are heard in international dialogues.
Partnership with the Department of Human Services
SAYF has partnered with the Department of Human Services on a project focused on raising awareness about coercive control. By engaging in discussions and activities related to this critical issue, we aim to empower young people with knowledge and resources, helping them recognise and address coercive behaviors in their communities.
Contribution to the DHS Statewide Youth Action Plan 2024-2027
Our involvement in shaping the DHS Statewide Youth Action Plan for 2024-2027 reflects our commitment to ensuring that young voices are central to policy development. Through our consultations and recommendations, we are advocating for initiatives that directly address the needs and concerns of youth across South Australia.
Participation in the Joint SA and NSW Social Media Summit
In an exciting opportunity, SAYF members were invited to participate in the Joint South Australian and New South Wales Social Media Summit. This event brought together youth leaders, educators, and industry experts to engage in meaningful discussions about the impact of social media on young people. Our representatives contributed valuable insights, sharing perspectives on both the challenges and opportunities that social media presents for youth today.
The SAYF received the 'Connecting Communities' Category for the Young Achiever of the Year Awards 2024
The South Australian Youth Forum is continually wanting to provide a youth voice at a decision-making level and can hold and facilitate youth advisorieThis recognition celebrates SAYF’s dedication to empowering young people across South Australia by creating a supportive platform for youth voices to be heard, valued, and acted upon. Through our initiatives and community-building efforts, SAYF strives to bridge the gap between young people and decision-makers, ensuring that youth perspectives shape policies and programs in meaningful ways.
